FORT PECK, MT — On Sunday, May 31st, families from across the community are invited to attend the Trace’s Tacklebox Kids Fishing Clinic, a free youth fishing event created to honor the life and memory of Trace Louis while giving local children an opportunity to learn, connect, and create lasting memories outdoors.
The event will begin at 10:00 AM at Lakeridge Lodging & Bait Shop, located at 5990 Highway 24 South in Glasgow, Montana, before continuing at Winter Harbor Pond for an afternoon of fishing, hands-on instruction, and family fun.
Children attending the clinic will receive fishing supplies and learn important outdoor skills including:
• How to rig and set up a fishing pole
• Basic casting techniques
• Water and fishing safety
• Local fishing knowledge and beginner angling skills
Lunch and snacks will be provided for attendees.
Organizer Kayla Darnell says the event was created from a deeply personal place, but with a larger vision for the community.
“Trace brought so much joy, laughter, and love into the lives of everyone around him. One of the biggest ways we can continue honoring him is by creating something positive for other children and families. Fishing brings people together, slows life down, and creates memories that last forever. This clinic is about community, healing, kindness, and giving kids a chance to experience the outdoors in a meaningful way.”
The clinic is designed to be welcoming for both beginner and experienced young anglers, with volunteers available throughout the day to help children learn and feel comfortable on the water.
Community support has already begun pouring in through donations, sponsorships, tackle contributions, and volunteer efforts. Organizers hope the event will continue growing in future years as a lasting tradition centered around youth, family, and outdoor recreation in Northeast Montana.
