Top Fishing Spots in Montana: Canyon Ferry, Hauser, and Holter 6.15.26
Fish on! The latest FWP report from Helena is in, and it’s looking like a “choose your own adventure” out on the water. From deep-dwelling kokanee to shore-side walleye, here is exactly where they’re biting and what they’re hitting on Canyon Ferry, Hauser, and Holter right now:
Canyon Ferry: Walleye fishing continues to be good at times between Pond 1 and Pond 3, around White Earth and north of White Earth along the west shore. Trolling bottom bouncers with worm harnesses has been the most productive with a few being caught on jigs. Rainbows are being caught on the north end and around White Earth while trolling crankbaits, spoons or cowbells. Rainbows and an occasional perch are being caught while fishing for walleye. Shore fishing has produced both rainbows and walleyes on worms or jigs with a worm around the Silos, Hellgate and Chinaman’s. The carp spawn is providing action for both bow fishing and hook and line. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
Hauser: The walleye bite has been good inside the Causeway Arm, out from White Sandy and around Eldorado Bar while pitching jigs and crawlers or using slip bobbers and a leech. Fishing during the late evening has been productive for walleye. A few rainbow trout are being caught below Canyon Ferry Dam with worms or Power Bait, and while trolling flashers or crankbaits between Black Sandy and the Dam or near York Bridge. Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena
Holter: Walleye fishing has been good inside the Canyon, near Willow and Cottonwood Creek, and near the Clay Banks while jigging with crawlers or using slip bobbers and leeches. Fishing for walleye during the late evening hours has been productive. A few perch are being caught throughout the reservoir while searching for walleye. Good numbers of rainbow trout continue to be caught throughout the reservoir while trolling flashers and spinner combos around 15-20 feet deep. Fly fishing on the upper end of the reservoir with midge nymphs and using worm and marshmallows from shore at Departure Point and other public boat ramp areas has been producing a few trout as well. A few kokanee are being picked up near the Dam while trolling dodgers and hoochies or wedding rings tipped with corn at least 40 to 50 feet deep. Some kokanee anglers are doing well during the early morning hours. Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena
