One Tag, One Giant Bull, One Possible World Record

Talk about showing up and accidentally rewriting the record book. According to an article from Outdoor Life, Illinois bowhunter Drew Stamerjohn tagged a giant of a Shiras moose in Idaho’s Sawtooth National Forest on Sept. 1, dropping the velvet-covered bull with an arrow at 50 yards. Guide Hoby Gartner knew they were looking at something special, but the numbers turned out to be downright ridiculous: the bull measured 55 4/8 inches wide and posted a preliminary net score of 185 inches, towering over the current Pope & Young velvet Shiras record of 161 6/8.

Even crazier, the hunt happened just days after Gartner guided another hunter to a potentially record-setting Idaho bull in the same unit. Stamerjohn’s moose still has to make it through the required 60-day drying period and official panel scoring, but unless the tape measure pulls a disappearing act, this Idaho bruiser looks poised to become the new archery world-record velvet Shiras moose!
