Neighbor’s Target Practice Finds an Unintended Target

A 38-year-old bow hunter is in critical condition after being struck by a stray bullet in Essex Township, Michigan, according to Michigan’s Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, via MLive.

Deputies responded just before 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, to Lowe Road, where they found the man in his hard-sided ground blind with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.

Investigators say someone on a nearby property was target shooting, and an errant round traveled far enough to hit the hunter…an accident, by preliminary findings. The investigation is ongoing.

The irony is hard to miss: a man armed with a bow, seated quietly in a blind, was the one who got shot — not by anything in the woods, but by a neighbor who apparently didn’t account for where his rounds were going.

This is a somber reminder to stay safe out there no matter where or what you’re shooting…and know where your bullets are going at all times!
