If you’ve ever enjoyed a crisp Montana hike with your four-legged best friend, you know the only “trap” you usually worry about is a sudden patch of mud or a particularly enticing squirrel. However, the Big Sky outdoors can occasionally hide more serious hardware. To help you trade trail-side panic for total peace of mind, Montana K9 Safety and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks are teaming up to host a Free K9 Trap & Snare Release Workshop. It’s the ultimate crash course in becoming your dog’s personal MacGyver, teaching you the exact skills needed to keep your pup safe and sound in the wild.
The event kicks off on April 29th, 2026, from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm at the Montana WILD FWP center in Helena. Since knowing is half the battle (and the other half is actually knowing how to work a spring-loaded mechanism), you’ll get hands-on experience that’s way more useful than a “good boy” and a head scratch. Just remember that while the workshop is free, you must pre-register to snag a spot. Head over to www.montanak9safety.com to sign up; your dog would thank you if they weren’t so busy sniffing that interesting-looking rock.
