Starting Monday, June 15, Montana hunters can register online via MyFWP for the annual Game Damage Hunt Roster to help landowners mitigate property and crop damage caused by deer, elk, and antelope. This year’s registration, which runs through July 15, also includes a special roster for managing out-of-bounds bison. Because these damage control situations require a rapid response—typically within 24 to 48 hours—and summer bison hunts necessitate a well-equipped team for quick field dressing, hunters are strongly encouraged to sign up only for districts they know well and can reach immediately.
To sign up, hunters must log into MyFWP and select one final, unchangeable hunting district per species. Since wildlife behavior is unpredictable, being placed on the list does not guarantee a hunt opportunity, and party registrations are not permitted. A randomized roster will be generated and posted to MyFWP accounts by July 20. Selected hunters will be contacted directly via phone or email, though FWP may also use alternative selection methods like first-come, first-served notices or landowner-provided lists depending on the urgency of the situation.
