Guinness World Records confirmed that the town of Lacombe, Alberta, is rocking the world’s largest fishing lure in 2020. Unveiled back in May 2019 to celebrate 90 years of the family bait business, this absolute unit of a lure is painted in their iconic “Yellow & Red Five of Diamonds” pattern.
How massive are we talking? It stretches a whopping 40 feet and 5.25 inches long. To put that in perspective, the previous record-holder in West, Texas, was 15 feet and 6.72 inches. Lacombe basically looked at Texas and said, “Hold my maple syrup.”
The masterminds behind the project, siblings Jessica Dew and Brad Pallister, had to wait a minute for the official bragging rights. Dew originally told Global News at the time of the certification: “Although we knew the lure dimensions easily beat out the old record, it took months for the application to be processed. We are very excited by the official approval.”
Built with the help of local welders and community groups, you can spot this giant piece of tackle right off Highway 2A. If you fancy a road trip, Lacombe sits about 78 miles south of Edmonton. In fact, if you started driving north from Sweet Grass, Montana, you’d hit this record-breaking behemoth in somewhere around five hours—making it the ultimate Big Sky Country-adjacent detour for anyone looking to see a truly legendary fishing accessory!
