If You Put the Effort In, Give Yourself an “A”

Well, the trees are changing colors, the coffee’s already cold by 5 a.m., and somewhere out there a bull elk is laughing at the way somebody practiced their bugle in the truck — it’s officially hunting season in Montana.

So here’s a whole-hearted best of luck to every soul creeping through the timber, glassing the breaks, or walking a little farther than their knees would’ve preferred: may your draw be clean, your shot be true, your thermos stay hot, and your buddy’s story about “the one that got away” stay at a manageable length this year.

Before you head out, do the most important and not-so-glamorous part and read the regs …seasons, district boundaries, tags, and all the fine print change more often than the weather up here, and “I didn’t know” doesn’t usually work as a defense.

You can start here: https://fwp.mt.gov/hunt/regulations. Wear your orange, tell someone exactly where you’re going, come home to the folks who worry about you, and if you don’t fill your tag — well, at least you got out there. Shoot straight, stay safe, and good luck, Montana.

Now, check out this video to remind you that if you come home empty-handed, you just have to give yourself an A for effort. Get back out there, and take a kiddo!
