Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (MFWP), Region One, is seeking public comment for the Investigation of Suppression of Walleye in Noxon Rapids Reservoir public draft environmental assessment, a proposal to conduct a 6-year effort to investigate suppressing illegally introduced walleye in Noxon Reservoir using a variety of sampling gear and techniques.

Beginning in spring of 2013 and continuing until 2018, MFWP proposes to intensively electrofish and/or gillnet the upper portion of Noxon Reservoir from Flatiron FAS to the Thompson Falls Dam until the end of May or June, or until walleye are no longer concentrated in the spawning area. Additionally, these or other techniques may be used to exploit other seasonal concentrations of walleye throughout the reservoir over the 6-year project time line.

The draft is out for a 30-day public review through March 29, 2013. Copies of the draft are available at the MFWP office, 490 N. Meridian Rd., Kalispell; the MFWP Field Office,  601 N Columbia Street, Thompson Falls; Montana State Library, 1515 E 6th Ave., Helena; MFWP State Headquarters, 1420 E 6th Avenue, Helena; Thompson Falls Library, 911 Main Street, Thompson Falls; and the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov under Public Notices.
