Every year Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks produces a Fishing Newsletter that contains reports from across the state. Here’s a link to this year’s report if you want to check it out: http://billingsgazette.com/lifestyles/recreation/fishing-newsletter/pdf_5ac7cec6-15b8-5745-ae42-20231d358d27.html Inside the newsletter is information about a number of the state’s top fishing waters, including results from netting surveys. It’s a good way to get a preview of what to expect on your favorite places to fish, or to maybe find a new water to check out. For example, the Region 4 biologists mentioned that Petrolia Lake inPetroleum County is growing some large northern pike, which may attract a few anglers to this remote water. The booklet also contains info on theYellowstone River’s great walleye and sauger fishery: note that the walleye have trophy potential between Miles City and Hysham. Give the report a glance, or read my story in this week’s Billings Gazette for some highlights: http://bgz.tt/ph7kg
