Tribe makes bid to operate Hell Creek State Park

In yet another unusual twist in the continuing saga of Hell Creek State Park, the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe has submitted a proposal to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to take over operation of the park when Montana State Parks’ lease expires in 2021. The state has changed course since its previous parks board endorsed the idea of the state parks manager to seek a partner to share costs for operation of Hell Creek or abandon the property. Now the state is saying it has no plans to abandon the lease and continues to invest in upgrades, such as a new potable water system and fish cleaning station wastewater system.
