June is a popular time to get engaged or become married. The summer weather is getting nicer, and we tend to do more outdoors. Hunters, anglers, campers, and outdoor recreationists feel more confident and excited about their futures.
How did you ask your partner to get Hitched? I have heard stories about special and unique ways that couples found the opportunity to plan a fun way to ask if “You Will Marry Me!”
My personal engagement required my girlfriend to hike on top of the Catoctin Mountains in Maryland. Perched at the peak is a rock promontory called Chimney Rock. It was there that I Popped the Question. She said yes and we were able to come back from the edge safely.
One of my biker buddy’s planned a Treasure Hunt. A map, clues, and a long mountain bike ride led to a hidden box that held an engagement ring. The many miles of trekking had its ups and downs but was well worth the adventure.
Anglers often find special ways to Hook Up. One of my “Brave Buddies”, attached the engagement ring to the fishing line and cast it into the lake! When it was time to re-bait, she reeled it in and with a worm in hand, discovered the diamond band! Good thing it was not a Catch and Release.
Shooters have been creative in targeting their mates. One sharpshooter I know waited for his wife to shoot a whitetail Buck. While she was digging out her tag, he used a twist tie to attach the diamond ring to the 8-points brow tine. The ring made the rack even bigger.
The nastiest engagement story I know of was when a guy proposed by giving his girlfriend a ring that was nestled in a jewelry box filled with trimmed hair, from his personal places. YEEECCHHH! She did say yes but the marriage didn’t last.
One of my Bucket List celebrations was to get married in a trout stream. The Minister would be in chest waders along with the couple and wedding party. The wedding party would march under a canopy of fishing rods. The reception would be a fish fry or crab feast loaded with picnic fare and keg beer. We did not do this 45 years ago but maybe if we survive to 50 years, we can renew our vows in a Montana River!
Hopefully, We Will!
