The following is a report by Yellowstone Angler in Livingston:
CFS: 1410
TEMP: 57-61°
The mud from last week has since past through. The “green is good” water actually produced some nice fish despite it starting out very brown as it passed through Gardiner.
Now that the sun is back we are trying a mix of different nymphs and terrestrial dries. We have been finding success with different color hoppers than the usual tan or pink/peach. Ditto that for targeting different “types” of water as we’ve caught some fish in unusual spots lately. Time to start thinking out of the box a little and serve them a change up.
For hatches, keep an eye out for Hecuba, baetis, and fall mahoganies, especially on cloudy days. On brighter days stick with the usual suspects, hoppers, ants, beetles. If you see a fish come up and look at your hopper try to “cat and mouse” them a little with a well timed twitch to make your fly look alive.
