Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is inviting women ages 18 and older to sharpen their ice fishing skills and enjoy a fun, supportive outdoor experience at a Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) ice fishing workshop in Havre this February.
The two-part workshop, scheduled for Feb. 13 and 14, is designed for beginners and those looking to build confidence on the ice. Participants will learn foundational techniques—including choosing the right equipment, dressing for winter conditions, and staying safe on the ice—during an evening indoor session on Friday.
On Saturday morning, attendees will put what they’ve learned into practice at a local frozen pond or lake (exact location to be determined based on ice and weather conditions), enjoying hands-on fishing experience and camaraderie with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
Registration Details:
- Cost is $15, and registration is required.
- Sign-ups open at 9 a.m. on Jan. 31 and close at 5 p.m. on Feb. 11.
- You can register online via the official BOW event page.
FWP will provide all fishing gear for the workshop, so no prior equipment is needed. While a fishing license is not required to participate, anyone using FWP lands must carry a valid conservation license, which can be purchased at local license vendors, FWP offices, or online.
Part of a nationally recognized program active in Montana since 1994, the BOW workshops introduce women to a range of outdoor skills—including fishing, hunting, navigation, and more—while fostering a welcoming environment for skill-building and community.
For additional details about this workshop or other BOW programs, visit the Becoming an Outdoors Woman section of the FWP website or contact the event coordinators listed on the registration page.
