FK&L Dispersed Recreation Site Closes for Major Improvements

FK&L Dispersed Recreation Site Closes for Major Improvements

Kalispell, MT, July 16, 2026) — The Flathead National Forest is beginning construction next week at the FK&L dispersed site west of Emery Bay Campground to provide an additional boat launch and day use area along Hungry Horse Reservoir.

Site improvements will include parking area construction, access road improvement, surface aggregate improvement, installation of a cast-in-place concrete boat launch, picnic area tables with connected raised walking paths, and construction of an overflow and boat trailer parking area at Emery Bay campground to increase the usable turnaround area at the top of the existing boat ramp. Starting July 22, 2026, the dispersed site will be closed for public safety to allow the site improvement construction work, including the existing access road 2808 from the junction with the 38 road (East Side Hungry Horse Reservoir Road), and the 10148 that accesses Emery Bay Campground. The area will be closed to camping and motorized vehicle use for the duration of the project. Once completed, the site will be classified as day-use only to provide increased public access for watercraft to the Hungry Horse Reservoir. The project is expected to be completed by July 2027.

For more information about the impacted area, review the closure order and map or contact the Hungry Horse-Glacier View Ranger District office at (406) 387-3800.
