Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) has reached a historic milestone in regional land conservation: 75,000 total acres of highly productive agricultural, wildlife-rich, and scenic open lands permanently protected across Gallatin, Park, and Madison counties.

 Governor Greg Gianforte and Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) Director Amanda Kaster recently announced the investment of $80.8 million to Montana’s public schools generated from state trust land revenue.

Remember, fireworks and other types of pyrotechnics, are strictly prohibited on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. These areas consist of multiple national monuments, recreation areas, campgrounds, undeveloped remote lands and more across Montana and the Dakotas. 

In Montana,nearly 58% of forest service land is restricted from road development and is unable to be properly managed for fire risk. This changes that.

Montana has been exempted from a bill that proposes the sale of 2 million acres of public lands across 11 Western states.

The BLM is recruiting for locations like Divide Bridge Campground, Clark’s Bay Day Use Area, Devil’s Elbow Campground, White Sandy Campground, Log Gulch Campground, Holter Dam Campground, and Holter Lake Campground.

The project activities include approximately 2,000 acres of commercial timber harvest and approximately 6,189 acres of noncommercial vegetation treatments.

Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) has partnered with the Rieschel family to conserve 391 acres east of Manhattan near the East Gallatin River. This is the second time the Rieschels have worked with GVLT to voluntarily establish a conservation easement, ensuring a total of more than 700 acres of scenic and productive land in the East Gallatin River corridor will remain forever open and available for agriculture.
