Someone may have messed with the wrong wolf, according to the Statesman Journal. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a $10,000 reward after a gray wolf—radio-collared OR186—was illegally killed last October in southern Oregon’s Yamsay Mountain area, where wolves west of Highway 395 are still protected under federal law.
The wolf was found dead on public land not far from Jackson Creek Campground, adding to a troubling tally: 26 wolves illegally killed in Oregon since 2022, even as the state’s population sits at around 204 wolves, according to Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
If you know something, it is not too late—feds say the reward applies to info that leads to an arrest or conviction, and tips can be anonymous. In other words: if you have the details, they have the cash.
