Whether you’re looking to punch through weed beds for walleye, dodge aggressive northern pike, or drop deep for trout, Hauser Lake is serving up a full menu of late-summer action—just make sure your leaders are bite-proof before you hit the water.

The bite has stayed consistent for walleye in the weeds. York Bridge down to the dam has been my most consistent stretch. Keep pounding the weeds with drop shots, jigs and neds. Perch, goby and ayu colors I find to be the usual performing colors. A slip bobber and worm is also effective on the main lake portion but usually performs better in the Causeway arm. Which is also fishing well right now in the morning and evenings. Rocky points are usually where the fish seem to hangout but keep an eye or rather sonar, on those weed beds. I would recommend tying on a titanium, steel or heavy fluro leader though. The pike have been very active. It took them half the year but they are finally hungry and aggressive. Walleye jigs have been effective but big jerk baits along the weed edges have proven very effective as well. Silver, gold or perch patterns.
Like Canyon Ferry, the trout are sheltering in the deeper water from White Earth to the dam. Bright, deep cranks are working here also but my go-to color of black/gold is still producing fish. Cowbells are a good tactic here too with wedding ring or trolling spoons also tipped with corn. I have heard only a few being caught but there have been kokanee caught. I would say at this point still that there isn’t a targetable population. I have had the opportunity to speak with a handful of very good kokanee fisherman and they have not been able to consistently catch kokanee out of Hauser. But that same tackle also catches trout so one way or the other you will still be entertained.
