Don Wilkins’ Weekly Fort Peck Fishing Report 10.16.26

Smallmouth– We found some good fishing this past week on rocks from 10 feet deep out to 35. Most areas we fished are holding good numbers as well. An S&T tackle 1/8 or 1/4 ounce hair jig with a minnow or a slip bobber and minnow caught the mess out of them. A Walleye Hunter Tackle walleye candy big eye jig with a 3.3 inch Kietech paddletail also worked well.

Pike- Shallow weed beds  are still holding large numbers of fish. A 1 ounce hammered silver or copper colored spoon worked the best for us. We also caught several on top water lures as well. The most productive weedbeds had 6-10 FOW over the tops of them.

Lake Trout– Found a few fish shallow toward the end of the week but most of the fish we caught are still in 120-135 FOW. Temps are still in the upper 50’s so the majority of the fish have not moved up yet. A Walleye Hunter Tackle 3/4 ounce laker jig, either green or red with a 4.8” Kietech Sightflash paddletail was the deal for us.

Lots of salmon in the bays at times. Fish and Game is still out collecting eggs and one report said they are just above 300,000 eggs collected so far. Little ways to go still to hit their number, but it’s an encouraging start.
