Emerson Copenhaver, 6 years old, had an incredible fishing trip with his grandpa Bill at Fort Peck Reservoir. They caught their limit of walleyes, and Emerson landed a massive 20-pound Chinook salmon, followed by another catch of 22 pounds the next day, creating lasting memories for both.

Cooper Green from Pablo showcased his fishing prowess on Fort Peck, catching a massive lake trout while fishing with Tim and Sarah Schauss. Having already caught walleye, bass, and pike, he now aims for his first Chinook salmon. Congratulations to Cooper for his impressive achievements and determination on the water!

Every July, the Montana Walleye Governor’s Cup draws anglers to Fort Peck Lake for a blend of tradition, competition, and camaraderie. Known for its trophy walleyes, the event features random weight payouts and encourages a catch-and-release format to preserve the fishery. It fosters community spirit, making it a cherished summer tradition.

Fort Peck Lake, known for its exceptional fishing, hosted the Crooked Creek Walleye Tournament where competitors caught over 100 pounds to win. Chris McFadden and Brem Phipps topped the leaderboard with 102.04 pounds. Interested anglers can register for the upcoming Montana Governor's Cup, featuring new events and diverse prizes, scheduled for July 2026.

Fort Peck fishing is thriving despite cold weather. Walleye are found in 5-14 feet, while Lake Trout prefer 25-35 feet. Use specific jigs and trolling speeds for success.

Walleye and Northern pike fishing at Peck has been productive, especially with 1/4 ounce jigs. Lakers are also being caught using crankbaits in deeper waters. Water temperatures remain cold.

Fort Peck is thawing, with Duck Creek and Marina bays mostly ice-free. Caution is advised due to floating ice and debris. Fishing for walleye and pike is improving but remains inconsistent.

Ice conditions and fishing varied this week in Rock Creek and McGuire. Reports noted strong northern bites in shallow water but melting shorelines and changing ice thickness require caution for safety.
