Starting March 1, the food and attractant storage order will again be in effect on the Bozeman, Hebgen Lake, Gardiner, Yellowstone and Beartooth ranger districts of the Custer Gallatin National Forest.

In the early morning hours of last Sunday, August 17th, Deputies were dispatched to a call for service at the Ice Cream Shop at Camp Richardson in South Lake Tahoe. The deputies could barely believe their eyes as they saw a large bear behind the counter of the shop.

It all started on June 7, when the bear crushed an unoccupied tent at the campsite.

A mountain biker safely managed a close encounter with a bear while riding on the Starry Goat Trail on national forestland near Troy last week. 

Effective March 1, 2024, food storage regulations will be reinstated annually from March 1- December 1, 2024, across five ranger districts within the Custer Gallatin National Forest: Bozeman, Hebgen Lake, Gardiner, Yellowstone, and Beartooth.

The bear had taken shelter in a crawlspace.
