Wednesday the Captain headed out for another day on the water at Flathead Lake in search of the big lake trout. Todd Harrison from Les Schwab went with him to see if he could catch one of those gigantic mackinaw.

They got on the water at 8:30 and caught their first lake trout about 30 minutes baiting up getting their bait to the bottom. They were using the Zimmer Tackle deadbait set-up with 9 inch pike minnows that the Captain had bought at Bob Wards in Missoula. Just like a week ago the fish started to bite. They started in 85 feet of water and worked into as deep as 125 feet. Most of the fish that they landed came out of 100 feet of water about 10-11:30am. Todd Harrison is picture with one of the 6 lake trout that he caught while fishing with the Captain.

Watch the video with Jim Johnson and he will explain how the dead bait set-up works and give you instructions on how to hook the pike minnows to the treble hook and what weights and rubber bands to use so you can catch lake trout fishing this way.
