Late last week, FWP reported three elk were poached in the Hay Canyon area, of Ratio Mountain, north of Whitehall. It was a “senseless” killing of a cow, a spike bull and a male calf.
Warden Justin Gibson and other Region 3 officials are investigating the poaching and said this was not a case where hunters lose track of wounded animals. All three elk were found only 50 yards from the road.
Here is what Warden Gibson had to say:
“This is just another senseless slaughter of our wildlife. I now know of at least ten elk that have been killed and purposely left to waste this year in my district alone. Any outdoor enthusiast should be outraged hearing of cases like this.”
If you know any additional information about this case, please contact FWP at 1 (800) TIP-MONT or Warden Gibson directly at 1 (406) 439-4017. Information leading to an arrest maybe eligible for a reward.
