“I have great luck with egg sacks”, reported Jim Johnson on fishing trout on Browns Lake and Holter through the ice. However, while Browns, as of Thursday, had about 12 inches of good ice, Johnson said that Holter ice might not be safe to go on after the warmer temperatures. Holter’s ice was only 6 inches a week and a half ago, and it was getting rotten the last time we fished it”, he said
It took Johnson only an hour and half to catch his limit on Wednesday but the fish were smaller than what he is used to catching on Browns lake. “I have good luck with egg sacks but other anglers are catching trout on tip-ups with a jig and a worm or a maggott”.
Browns Lake is becoming a weekend destination it seems, with one report of nearly 60 vehicles parked nearby fishing last Saturday. Johnson has had his best luck fishing in about 12 feet of water, at about a foot off the bottom.
