Hunting:

Spring Turkey is in full swing and runs through May 15th.  Spring Bear starts April 15th. Sheep, Goat, and Moose applications are due by May 2nd.

Fishing:

Little Blackfoot River: If you’re looking for some smaller water it’s a gorgeous place, but the river has come up significantly to 270cfs killing the dry fly action temporarily. Size 12-14 hares ear nymphs through deeper runs seem to be working well. With rain in the forecast and warmer temperatures, it could accelerate snow melt. Dry fly action could pick up in two weeks or so.

Canyon Ferry/Holter/Hauser: Time to get your boat out! With warmer water temperatures the walleye bite is picking up, and the trout spawn is still on.  Spawn sacs, marabou jigs and trolling crankbaits have been very successful.  For Walleye we recommend tossing some cranks or jigs with perch (or fire tiger); worm harnesses are also starting to work.

Missouri River:  Weather has been warm with a few spikes of rain and wind and as a result water temps have been on the rise and fish are starting to get more energy.  Nymphing has been the ticket for filling your net.  We’d recommend bringing your best midge patterns and BWOs. If you’re looking to get some dry fly action, things are a bit slow but if you’re determined to fish the surface try a Purple Haze or Adams.
