Man dies in turkey hunting accident

There is sad news from Wisconsin today, where a man died during a turkey hunt. The tragic ending is a reminder to always be careful in the woods.

“ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) — A man out turkey hunting was shot when he accidentally ran into the field of fire of another member of his hunting party.

According to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, the 37-year-old Janesville man was hunting Sunday morning with two other people in a field near N. Lima Center Road and Highway A in the town of Johnstown. Officials say he left the blind to retrieve a wounded turkey and inadvertently ran into the field of fire where another hunter was trying to shoot and kill the bird. The man was shot in the back.

Authorities say the victim’s family members tried to give him CPR but that was unsuccessful. He died at the scene. Investigators reconstructed the incident and say it appears to be an unfortunate hunting accident. The investigation is still ongoing.”
