Want to fish the Upper Missouri River for paddlefish this year? Time is getting short to apply!

Anglers wishing to fish for Paddlefish on the upper Missouri River in 2017 must apply on line or with a paper application by March 30th, 2017.  Here’s more information about this unique opportunity from the MTFWP:

FWP launched a new way for paddlefish tags to be allocated in 2016. This tag allocation system will only apply to the Upper Missouri River paddlefish fishery (this is the WHITE PADDLEFISH TAG). This fishery exists from Fort Peck Dam to Fort Benton.

  • There is no longer be a Paddlefish Hotline which provides anglers information on river flows and harvest data. Anglers interested in river flows should use the USGS website for information, particularly the Landusky Gauging Station.  [Learn more]
  • There will be 1,000 harvest tags allocated in 2017.  Paddlefish may be harvested between May 1- June 15, 2017.  The season WILL NOT be shortened if more than 500 fish are harvested during the season.  The number of tags allocated each year may change to ensure sustainable population management.
