The 121 mule deer harvested during a special hunt in Liberty County did not test positive for chronic wasting disease, Montana Untamed reported Wednesday.

The discovery of the disease in a mule deer killed during last year’s general hunting season triggered the special management hunt. Between Jan. 6 and Feb. 15 hunters killed 32 bucks and 89 does. The final test results for all of those animals concluded they did not have chronic wasting disease.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will hold a meeting at the Chester High School auditorium on March 14. The meeting will cover the results of the special hunt and what CWD surveillance measures will be taken during the 2018 season.
