BILLINGS – As the Robertson Draw fire near Red Lodge continues to burn, boaters and others planning to recreate at Cooney State Park this weekend should be aware that Cooney Reservoir will be a water source for firefighters and will be closed to recreational use. Aerial firefighters will scoop water from Cooney Reservoir to drop on the fire, requiring an emergency closure of reservoir. The park will remain open to camping and day use.

On Thursday, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced that campfires are banned at all Fish, Wildlife & Parks properties in Carbon, Yellowstone and Stillwater counties starting this week because of fire danger.

FWP followed the lead of Carbon, Yellowstone and Stillwater county commissioners, who voted this week to enter Stage I fire restrictions countywide.

The restrictions are in response to dry, warm weather that could increase the danger of human-caused wildfires. They will be in effect until further notice.
