Fence pull at Yellowstone Wildlife Management Area October 27

FWP, conservation organizations hosting workday to improve habitat connectivity

BILLINGS – Hunters and others passionate about wildlife conservation have an opportunity to actively participate in a stewardship project next week. Pheasants Forever, in conjunction with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and Montana Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, is hosting a fence pull at Yellowstone Wildlife Management Area (WMA) on Friday, Oct. 27, to improve habitat connectivity. All equipment will be provided. Participants should meet at the large shop building located at the WMA. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to a 2021 National Geographic report, 600,000 miles of rural fencing run throughout the American west. Fencing is an essential aspect of livestock and property management. However, fencing—especially unnecessary barbed wire fencing—can become hazardous to wildlife and create barriers for their daily and seasonal movement.

Participants at the Yellowstone WMA fence pull will work to remove unnecessary and abandoned fencing on the property to improve habitat connectivity at this popular hunting location. For more information on the event, contact Crystallaina White with Pheasants Forever at clwhite@pheasantsforever.org
