This salmon season has been far and away the best I’ve ever had so in the spirit of what this page was created for I thought I’d share a few things that have stood out on the water this year.
- Salmon Candy 8” flashers in Megatron, Kryptonite, and Optimus Prime patterns have accounted for at least 75% of the fish in the boat this year, fly leader length behind these flashers measured from the head has been 18-22 inches
- Salmon Candy flies, Gary Rueb’s Blackjaw flies and Randy Beavis flies have all caught fish at different times this year, blue/green mixes have worked the best for most of the year but seeing a change to more chrome/black patterns
- Brad’s bait cups in the mini size have caught a pile of fish this year also, black jack being the one that is the most consistent filled with tuna
Speed has been 2.0-2.2, and nearly all the big fish for us have come no deeper than 75 feet down in the water column and check your knots and leaders every morning, there are some fish out there this year that will break your heart if you don’t. Hope everyone gets out there and puts something in the hurt locker today!
