Outdoor industry leaders, land managers, community planners, recreation enthusiasts, and more will come together for the 2025 Montana Outdoor Recreation Summit, taking place October 21-23 in Billings, Montana.

Co-hosted by the University of Montana’s Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research (ITRR), the W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation, and Outdoor Community Partners (OCP), this gathering serves as a cornerstone for addressing the pressing challenges and opportunities shaping Montana’s outdoor recreation landscape. It’s a space where ideas take root, connections are forged, and real-world solutions emerge.

Montana’s outdoor recreation industry plays a vital role in the state’s economy, driving growth, enhancing quality of life, and fostering community well-being. As outdoor spaces face increasing demands, collaboration across industries and regions is essential to ensuring a sustainable future. The summit will bring together experts and stakeholders to develop innovative strategies that balance today’s needs with long-term priorities.

This year’s summit will feature dynamic speakers, expert-led panels, interactive sessions, a film festival, and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration and innovation in the outdoor recreation industry. The summit will explore four key themes, informed by feedback from past attendees and stakeholders across the state:

  • Adapting to Extremes: Community Resilience, Response, and Recovery in Managing Outdoor Recreation
  • Partners on the Landscape: Business, Stewardship, and Public Lands
  • Shared Outdoors: Bridging Gaps in Access and Experience
  • Room to Roam: Outdoor Recreation Experiences with Wildlife in Mind

“Participating in the 2023 Montana Outdoor Recreation Summit was an incredible experience—real conversations, diverse perspectives, and a shared commitment to our outdoor spaces,” said Julie Tickle, Executive Director of DREAM Adaptive Recreation. “I’m looking forward to the 2025 Summit as another opportunity to connect, collaborate, and tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead in a space where all voices are valued.”
