High Water Prompts Emergency Closure of Blankenship Southwest along the Flathead River

April 11, 2026 by Moosetrack Megan

Due to high water, the Flathead National Forest has implemented an emergency closure order for Blankenship Southwest (also known as Blankenship Bridge area). Seasonal runoff, combined with recent and forecast rains, have created increased water levels on the Flathead River which has submerged the access road to the Blankenship Southwest gravel bar. This short-term closure order has been put in place for public safety and will be lifted when water levels recede. A gate was installed in April 2025 on Flathead County right-of-way with an approved encroachment permit to facilitate public safety closures during times of high water. The area is closed to camping and motorized vehicle use while the emergency closure is in place.

For more information about the impacted area, review the closure order and map or contact the Hungry Horse-Glacier View Ranger District office at (406) 387-3800.
