Grab your sunscreen and mark your calendars, because summer is officially kicking off in the best way possible! If you’re looking for the perfect, action-packed weekend plan for the whole crew, you’re going to love this: the Great Falls Family Fishing Day is back!
On Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to noon, Wadsworth Pond Park is transforming into the ultimate outdoor playground. Whether your kids are total beginners or you’re looking to sharpen your own angling skills, this event is honestly the place to be.
Here is why you absolutely cannot miss it:
What’s on the Agenda?
This isn’t just a day of throwing lines in the water—it’s actually the biggest fishing clinic in the entire state! The organizers have set up awesome, bite-sized educational stations where you and the kids can learn:
- Fish Identification: Know exactly what’s on the end of your line.
- Knot Tying & Casting: Master the basics like a pro.
- Fly-Tying Demonstrations: Watch the experts weave some serious magic.
Bonus for the Kids: If the kiddos complete all the educational stations, they’ll score some free fishing tackle courtesy of the amazing folks at the Great Falls Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited! (Just a heads-up: supplies are limited, so definitely get there early!)
No License? No Problem!
Here is the coolest part of the whole day: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is granting a special educational exemption for this event. That means after the official clinic wraps up at noon, you and your family can stay and fish all the way until sunset without a fishing license! It’s the ultimate, stress-free opportunity to just relax by the water and make some memories.
A Massive Community Effort
An event this awesome doesn’t just happen on its own. It’s a huge, heartwarming collaboration aimed at getting our community outside and connected. Huge shoutouts go to the incredible volunteers and sponsors making this happen:
- Montana Walleyes Unlimited & Montana Trout Unlimited
- Sun River Watershed Group
- City of Great Falls Parks and Recreation Department
