If you want to trick these finicky locals, your main move is sneaky wade-fishing—because as the shop bluntly reminds everyone, “No floating is allowed on Rock Creek.”

Here is the rundown on how to play it smart right now:

• Beat the Heat (and the Law): FWP dropped the hammer on the upper stretch. There are full-on hoot owl rules running from the East/West Fork confluence down to Stoney Creek, meaning “no fishing from 2:00 PM to midnight in that reach.” Roll out of bed at dawn, get your fixes early, and wrap it up before the river gets cooked.
• Tiptoe and Target: Leave the deep open water behind and hunt the structural hideouts—think boulder pockets, shaded slots, and undercut banks.
