Apparently 91 is the new 29, because Dale “Greybeard” Sanders just finished the entire Appalachian Trail and reclaimed the oldest-hiker record he first set at 82. According to People, the retired Navy veteran completed it in two stretches, survived a brutal fall near the top of Mount Katahdin, and still reached the summit—because lying on some rocks in agony was evidently just a brief scheduling issue.
We all know plenty of people in Montana who love hiking, and Dale’s story is a powerful reminder that age really is just a number when determination is carrying the backpack! He has already paddled the Mississippi and crossed the Grand Canyon twice, and now he’s planning to scuba dive with fish at the Atlanta aquarium…because apparently retirement is only boring if you let it be! Nice.
