DREAM Adaptive Recreation Launches 18th Summer Season of Adaptive Adventure

DREAM Adaptive Recreation is in full swing for its 18th summer season, continuing nearly two decades of providing life-changing outdoor recreation opportunities for children, adults, and veterans with disabilities throughout Northwest Montana.

Since launching summer programming in 2009, DREAM has expanded from a handful of opportunities to a diverse lineup of adaptive outdoor experiences that empower individuals of all ages to build confidence, independence, and meaningful connections in some of Montana’s most spectacular landscapes. Last year alone, DREAM provided more than 1,700 adaptive recreation experiences to nearly 400 children, adults, and veterans with disabilities.

This summer, participants will enjoy adaptive paved-path cycling, mountain biking, paddleboarding, kayaking, motorized watersports, and fishing, all supported by highly trained staff, volunteers, adaptive equipment, and generous community partners.

“Summer is an incredible time at DREAM,” said Julie Tickle, Executive Director. “Every day we see participants accomplish something they weren’t sure was possible, whether it’s riding a bike independently, paddling across a lake, or catching their first fish. None of it happens without the support of our community.”

One of the highlights of the 2026 summer season is DREAM’s annual Family Watersports Week, taking place July 21–24 on Echo Lake. The four-day event brings together children, adults, and families with disabilities for adaptive waterskiing, tubing, paddleboarding, kayaking, pontoon boat rides, and other on-the-water adventures. The week concludes on July 24 with a special day dedicated to veterans and their families, honoring those who have served while creating opportunities to reconnect, build confidence, and create lasting memories together on the water.

The 2026 season also marks continued growth through community partnerships that expand access to recreation opportunities. This summer, DREAM is proud to once again partner with EFOIL X and its parent company, Backcountry Xperiences. Their generous support of adaptive water recreation, equipment, expertise, and volunteerism helps create unforgettable experiences for participants and families throughout the summer. DREAM also extends its sincere appreciation to the many organizations, businesses, volunteers, and public agencies whose support makes summer programming possible.

In addition to community partnerships, more than 250 dedicated volunteers contribute thousands of hours each year, helping participants safely explore new activities while building confidence, friendships, and lifelong memories.

Summer programming runs through mid-September. Community members are encouraged to sign up to participate or volunteer.
