Hi folks, Angie here from BOB WARD & SONS, with about-to-be April fishin’ in the HELENA region!
We got rainbows hanging out in the SHALLOWS on CANYON FERRY (shown above), so hit the docks or the shorelines & test your luck…try Leeches & Worms, we hear that’s been the ticket this week! The Spawn is on for PERCH, so use caution, but no sign of the Trout Spawn quite yet. The conditions are similar at both HAUSER & HOLTER, with shore fishin’ being the Big Bang right now…don’t miss out! Or take a trek South to HARRISON LAKE to get out of all that WIND on Canyon Ferry…use your Crayfish, & land a few of the sizeable Brookies that have been hanging out here…you can get a boat out on the lake, but there’re still ice patches, so watch for these!
NO Trout Spawn on the MISSOURI yet, either, but that won’t be far off! Meantime it is MEGA-good just about anywhere you care to go, just try to get into some shelter from the wind! We hear anything with a Bead Head (like the Glass Bead PMD in a 16) is working extremely well, or get your GNATS & Midge Emergers floating! The RUBY RIVER’s still fishin’ well, below the Dam in the tailwater…fish are looking at the surface, so pack your Spring Mix of Midge Emergers (we like the Neversink Hi Vis Gnat in an 18), or nymph Egg Patterns or Rust San Juans! The JEFFERSON is just now getting to be the HOT site it will be in April, still plenty of visibility going on & good angling all the way to Headwaters…select a Clousers Crayfish, any of your San Juans, or Stones in some larger sizes…here, you can go to a 10 or bigger!
Make sure you have a current copy of the Montana Fishing Regulations, which are available in the HELENA STORE, or at any Bob Wards near you. Know the 2012 Regs!
