A Fish, Wildlife and Parks warden came upon a grisly sight south of Lambert recently: a doe antelope shot and left to waste. If that weren’t disturbing enough, she was carrying two fawns that were close to full term.
“The fawns would have been born within a couple weeks,” said Warden Ryan Karren, who is based in Sidney.
Karren estimated that the doe was killed on or around April 28 or 29. The animal was shot and found on private land and left whole. Karren investigated following a call from a landowner.
The warden said he sees a few scenarios like this every year, and poaching or wasting is a constant problem.
The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 853-7272. People also may contact 1-800-TIP-MONT where callers may remain anonymous if they choose. If a tip leads to a conviction, the caller is eligible for a reward.
