Two Hunter Education courses will be offered in Miles City in March and April, with online registration opening today for the first course.

A class is scheduled for March 8-10 at FWP Region 7 Headquarters in Miles City. Interested people can register now for the course at www.fwp.mt.gov. Click on “Education,” select “Hunter Education Programs,” then “Find a Class or Field Course.” You can enter a zip code to narrow your search, then follow prompts to register.

There are 40 seats available for this course, which is open to anyone ages 10 or older. Students must be 10 by March 8 to enroll. There is no cost to participate, and materials are provided. Registrants must pick up a Hunter Education manual from FWP headquarters during business hours by March 1. They must read the manual and complete chapter review questions prior to attending class.

On Friday, March 8, class runs from 6-8 p.m. Adults of minor students are encouraged to attend the first evening. On Saturday and Sunday, class will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Students should plan to bring lunches on Saturday and Sunday.

There will be a field day exercise on Sunday, typically at nearby Spotted Eagle Recreation Area. Students must arrange for a ride to and from the location. They should wear clothing appropriate for the weather and for hunting. No shorts or open-toed shoes are allowed. No adult online students will be admitted for this field day.

A Hunter Education class is also scheduled for April 26-28 in Miles City at FWP headquarters. The class is limited to 40 people. Online registration opens on March 25 at 8 a.m. at www.fwp.mt.gov. All registrants for this event must be 10 by April 26.

Class on Friday, April 26 will run from 6-8 p.m. Class on Saturday and Sunday is 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The field day portion will be Sunday. No adult online students will be accepted for the field day.

Again, registrants must pick up Hunter Education manuals from FWP during business hours prior to April 19 and must read the manual and complete chapter review questions prior to attending class.

These may be the only Hunter Education classroom courses offered in Miles City prior to the fall hunting seasons. Space is limited, and classes can fill up quickly.
