HELENA – Hunters interested in purchasing leftover limited mountain lion and/or nonresident hound licenses can do so starting Sept. 11 at 5 a.m.
These licenses were left over after the regular drawing process and will be sold first-come, first-served online or in person at any FWP office or license provider. The licenses are limited so if hunters are interested, they should get online early.
Only one each of the following surplus limited mountain lion licenses are available:
If you are a nonresident, you may be required to hold the hound license that corresponds to the limited mountain lion license you are planning to purchase. Nonresident hound licenses are required for any nonresident using dogs to hunt lions, except for:
- Those hunting with a licensed outfitter.
- Nonresident landowners who own 640 or more contiguous acres, or nonpaying guests of a nonresident landowner (must hunt/pursue mountains lions on landowner’s property or on public lands within two miles of the landowner’s property).
- Nonresident licensed outfitters and guides.

- 595-00
- 694-00
Two of the 494-00 nonresident winter hound licenses are available.
