Jennifer Butler—race organizer and longtime competitor—joins the Montana Outdoor Podcast to talk about the wild, fast-paced world of competitive skijoring in Montana and the joy of competing alongside her son, David.
This week, your host Downrigger Dale (“Rigger”) sits down with Jennifer to dig into what makes these events so intense—and so fun to watch. Skijoring competitions feature teams made up of a horse-and-rider pulling a skier. In Jennifer’s case, she’s the rider, and her fearless son David is on the skis.
“At first, I was not sure if Jennifer and David and the other competitors were crazy and just lucky they are all still up walkin around or if they are incredible athletes that make crazy look easy. After watching them I’m pretty sure it is the latter.”
—Downrigger Dale (“Rigger”)
To really understand what Rigger means, you’ll want to watch or listen—the videos and pictures make it clear just how wild these competitions can be. Jennifer also shares how to get involved, or at least how to go watch a skijoring race in Montana this year. One event that comes up in the conversation is Whitefish Skijoring, where we hear Jennifer and David are planning to go wild (which, of course, they tend to do wherever they compete).
