We have officially reached peak simulation status when a real, live human being could be juggling chain saws right in front of us, and we’d still be staring at a five-second clip of a cat misjudging a jump onto a refrigerator. This footage is the ultimate proof that our phones haven’t just hijacked our attention spans; they’ve completely evicted us from reality. You could have a literal UFO landing in the background, complete with glowing neon lights and jazz-playing aliens, and the collective crowd would still be aggressively scrolling through their feeds, trying to find a filter that makes the spaceship look more aesthetic.
It’s both hilarious and slightly terrifying how we’ve collectively agreed that whatever is happening behind that glowing glass rectangle is infinitely superior to actual existence. The person in this clip is locked into his screen like the latest celebrity breakup decodes the secrets of the universe, completely oblivious to the tangible world unfolding just inches away…literally inches. This buck is very much curious about the man….or maybe the buck is also curious about what is on the man’s screen. It’s hard to say!
At this rate, the apocalypse won’t happen with a bang or a whimper—it’ll happen while we’re all double-tapping a meme about how tired we are, totally missing the giant meteor because the Wi-Fi in the bunker is surprisingly fast.
