HARDIN – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens are seeking information on a mule deer buck that was shot with a firearm and wasted on private land five miles north of Hardin. The entire carcass, including all meat, was left.
Wardens discovered the carcass on Sept. 9, and estimate the deer was likely killed between late night Sept. 8 and early morning Sept. 9. Rifle hunting for deer in this area does not begin until Oct. 24. Additionally, hunters are prohibited from wasting any part of a game animal that is suitable for food, including the tenderloins, backstraps and all of the four quarters.
Anyone with possible information about this incident is asked to visit tipmont.mt.gov, call 1-800-TIP-MONT, or call the local game warden at 406-860-7804 to provide details. Those who report information may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
