Donuts are a primary food item for most outdoorsmen and women. There are so many kinds of donuts and so little time. Everyone has their favorite.
My favorite donut is a Pus Bun! My buddy Keith named them years ago. To the normal donut eater, these are Bavarian Cream pudding filled with delights that are so tasty and good. Others may know them as Boston Cream filled donuts. The pudding filling mimics “pus” which is caused when white blood cells die from healing body wounds. The chocolate icing topping just makes this donut even better, but many styles come without the chocolate. They may just be rolled in sugar or have a honey glaze on them.
Pus Buns can also hold jelly, fruit, or other sweet fillings but the pudding is tough to beat. Now I know that Pus sounds nasty but at hunting camp, anything goes.
My brother Curt is the king of donuts. He enjoys the monster Bear Claws, Bigfoots, and Battleships but a Pus Bun will do in a pinch. He literally eats donuts every day. It is amazing that he has not gained a ton of weight from the donut buffets he has consumed.
This filled donut is hard to make at hunting camp so maybe a pre-camp baking session is needed. Whipped cake icing works well to spread over the top. I have tried this recipe at camp with mixed results. Even the crumbly and rough looking buns get eaten at camp. I am still trying to master my donut skills at camp. Maybe you can have better luck.

Belly up to the camp breakfast bar and feast on a Pus Bun!
