Anglers have their special secret fishing hot spots. Sharing them means that you must kill anyone that gives away your secrets.

Hunters also have their special hot spots, stands, blinds, and fields where they have had great luck. The more time you spend outdoors, the more likely you will discover a few Honey Holes.

Hot spots go cold real fast. There are usually short-term reasons for fast fishing and game concentrations. Weather, agriculture, migrations, stockings, and other crazy things often create the hot spots. What were once super good places are rarely great for long. Don’t kill your buddies for sharing info that will only be short term. It is respectful to not share your buddies’ favorite places without permission.

I had a “Secret Stream” that paid off for years. After the trout stocking was over and the grass grew up, I would tackle the downstream trek to the Glory Hole. The reason it was so good was a huge downstream beaver dam that blocked stocked fish from going any further downstream. The fish stacked up in the pool, and it was a great Hot Spot. After a few years, the beaver dam was flooded out, and the hot spot went cold.

I took my brother and just a few friends to this Secret Hot Spot and celebrated the bounty together. No one let the secret out, so I did not have to kill anyone. Many newbies and kids caught their first limits in the Secret Honey Hole by the beaver dam. These scenarios are often short term at best. Have fun and share while you can. Maybe these friends will do the same.

Anglers that are OCD about Honey Holes are often friendless, lonely, and never satisfied. When the fish run out it will be someone else’s fault. There is certainly a limit to overcrowding and fishing but being a depressed hermit is not the solution.

Anglers evolve over time. The first step is just Catching a fish. Next, they want to catch a lot of fish. Then they want to net a MASSIVE fish. Once they develop fishing skills, they target a specific fish. Finally, the most joy comes from teaching others how to catch a fish. A Secret Honey Hole can be useful during these changes.

When it comes down to it fishing is just FUN! Over a lifetime, you will find and lose Secret Spots. Enjoy them while you can.

Catch a BIGGUN!
