Montana FWP slipped one more item onto the Oct. 15 Fish and Wildlife Commission agenda: a proposal to turn Thompson Island into a new public fishing access site.
The deal would give the state a 32-acre island in the Stillwater River, plus an access easement. It’s about five miles north of Absarokee, between Swinging Bridge FAS and Jeffrey’s Landing FAS.
Also on the public-comment menu:
- 2027–2028 fishing regulations
- Flathead River brown trout rules
- Grizzly bear release sites
- Northern leopard frog transplants
- A temporary full closure of Kona Bridge FAS
- Public and commercial use fees
- Proposed motorized-use restrictions at Swan Lake
If you want your two cents to count, make sure you submit your comments online or by mail by Sept. 24. You can also speak at the Oct. 15 meeting at the Montana Heritage Center in Helena, at an FWP regional office, or over Zoom.
The meeting starts at 8 a.m. Zoom registration runs from Sept. 30 until noon on Oct. 14—because even public comments need a reservation these days!!!
