Fall has officially clocked in around Dillon, and the fish seem to have gotten the memo. Backcountry Angler’s September 10, 2026 report paints a pretty tempting picture: “Fall fishing at its best, saw a pile of bwo’s yesterday and when the clouds came over they munched on them good. Pretty good flows so nymph up those deep runs as well. Streamers in the am, some weather coming in and could really get them going.” Translation: the river has options right now. Swing streamers through the morning gloom, dig into those deeper runs with a nymph rig when the sun gets bright, and keep an eye overhead because a little cloud cover could flip the BWO switch and turn the afternoon into a full-on trout buffet. With good water underneath you and fall weather beginning to stir the pot, Dillon is entering that sweet little window when bringing more than one game plan pays off.
