From Concrete to Current, The Gates Are Taking Shape!

After a summer where concrete has pretty much been the unofficial mascot of the Milk River Project, it’s fun to see some serious steel stepping into the spotlight. According to their latest update on social media, crews are now prepping the radial gates for installation in the sluiceway at the St. Mary Diversion Dam near Babb, Montana. It’s a different kind of progress, but another big sign that the pieces of this massive project are clicking into place.

So, what exactly does a sluiceway do? Think of it as the dam’s water traffic controller…a built-in channel that helps manage where the river flows and how much water moves through. Once installed, these radial gates will help regulate that flow, directing water through the St. Mary Diversion Dam headworks and onward into the canal. Concrete may have owned the summer, but these gates are giving September a pretty strong entrance.
