Canyon Ferry: Not many anglers are getting out and those that did this weekend had some slow fishing conditions. With cooler water temps both walleye and rainbows are moving to shallower water. Mid reservoir continues to be the best bet for walleye along the east shoreline both north and south of Goose Bay. Trolling bottom bouncers with a worm harness, crankbaits or jigs in in 10 to 20 feet of water provided the best action. Walleyes are also being picked up around Snaggy Bay and between the Silos and the Ponds, but there is a lot of green algae on the south end right now. Rainbows are being caught on walleye gear, lures or cowbells in the traditional walleye spots as well as the north end of the reservoir around Cemetary Island, mid-reservoir around Goose Bay and from the Silos to White Earth. Smallmouth bass are still being caught on the north end around rocky areas while using jigs with a worm or crankbaits. Shore fishing is slow with a few rainbows and walleyes being caught. Hauser: Rainbow fishing continues to be good below Canyon Ferry Dam and at the Causeway while using night crawlers, nymphs or streamers. Anglers trolling crankbaits or cowbells out from Black Sandy and between York Bridge and Lakeside are catching a few nice trout as well. Walleye and perch fishing has slowed down but a few fish are being found inside the Causeway arm while jigging with crawlers or using slip bobbers and leeches. Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena
Holter: Rainbow fishing has been awesome lately. Anglers using nymphs or streamers are doing well out from the Gates of the Mountains and trolling cowbells with a nightcrawler out from Black Beach has been producing good numbers of trout. Night fishing around the Split Rock area with worms or trolling crankbaits along the Clay Banks across from the Boat Loft has been making hungry rainbows bite as well. Walleye and perch action has been slow, but a few are being found inside the Canyon, near Willow Creek, Cottonwood Creek, and the Clay Banks while jigging around the weed beds, using slip bobbers and leeches, or trolling bottom bouncers with crawler harnesses. Helena Valley Regulating Reservoir: Snagging has been going well, and anglers are seeing larger fish this year. The snagging season for Kokanee Salmon opened on September 1st and will run through October 31st. Limits are 35 salmon daily with 70 in possession. Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena
